About Us

Our Mission

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is member congregation of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The LCMS is made up of 6,150 congregations, with 2.5 million baptized members. The mission statement of the LCMS states:

In grateful response to God’s grace, and empowered by the Holy Spirit through Word and Sacraments, the mission of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod is vigorously to make known the love of Christ by word and deed within our churches, communities and the world.

Since 1979, Good Shepherd is a congregational member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and of the Central Illinois District of the LCMS. As we grow in our relationship to the Lord, we seek to serve Him and our neighbor through our daily lives, preaching and teaching Christ crucified and risen.

What We Believe

The Lutheran Church teaches and confesses the truths found in God’s Holy Word, the Bible and as they are correctly explained and taught in the Book of Concord. We teach and confess one true God: Father, Son and Holy Ghost. The teaching can be summarized as follows: we are saved by the grace of God alone, through faith in Christ alone, as that truth is found in Scripture alone.

Liturgy

The Lutheran Church has retained a historic order for the Divine Service. We follow this order not because we believe it is the only right way but because we believe this ancient pattern for worship most clearly and beautifully serves the purpose of the Divine Service, which is to deliver the gracious gifts of God.

Hymnal

Divine Worship Services incorporate the LCMS’s new Lutheran Service Book (LSB), which can be found here.
