Pastor's Message

from the Pastor…

Usually this page begins with a title or a heading, not this month. There is so much going on and in the planning stages, I didn’t know where to start or what to emphasize. So you’re just going to get a little summary of the things running around in my brain.

February is the shortest month of the year, but we have a lot going on. Mark your calendars! Here’s just the highlights of the month to come:

Feb. 7—Sunday…Friends in Faith “Silent Auction & Potluck

Not only is it Super Bowl Sunday, this one of the most fun Sundays of the year at Good Shepherd…lots of auction items, a congregational potluck dinner, and time to have great fellowship with brothers and sisters in Christ! The fun starts after church and really gets into full swing after SS/BC.

Feb. 14—Sunday…Missions Sunday

A special service dedicated to the work of sharing the Good News of the saving Gospel in Christ Jesus. Pastor Joel Cluver, CID Mission executive (and a great preacher!) will be at Good Shepherd…we will have mission emphasis during Sunday School, too.

Feb. 17—Wednesday…Ash Wednesday

Lent begins with the solemn observance of Ash Wednesday, beginning forty days of repentance and focusing on the cross where our Lord suffered for the sins of the world. This year we will be looking at the OT prophet Amos during our Lenten journey, “Restore the Roar” will be the theme…Amos told of God’s impending judgment on His people for their sins, but also told them of restoration that would come.

Feb. 24/28—Wednesday/Sunday…Friendship Sunday

If there was just one person in you community that you knew did not have a church home, would you invite them to worship with you? We need to have a heart that will reach out in love to those who need to hear about the love of Christ! So invite a friend, a neighbor, a relative to church this week.

Also…a little update on the “Summit” meeting we had on Jan 23…41 members attended and discussed some things we could/should be addressing at Good Shepherd now and in the months and years ahead. A lot of good ideas were shared, and we will asking for your help—to serve on boards and committees, to become involved in areas of Christian stewardship where the Lord has planted you and given the talents to accomplish His will. So be ready, and willing, for you have been saved to serve! Pray that the Lord would continue to bless the church and that He would use each of us to let our Gospel lights shine!

In Christ,
